Character Age: Over Four Thousand
Timeline: While Mithos is still loitering with Genis and company.
Background: Tales of Symphonia Wikia

Personality: The first thing that would probably be noticed about Kratos is the fact that he is very calm and kind of stand-off-ish. He is more likely to silently listen to what is going on around him than he is to start a conversation. And even within a conversation, he will only say what is necessary, needless chatter is completely pointless to him. So it is very difficult to get close to him unless you are the type who can talk without someone responding. He tends to push people away during this first stage, not wanting people to get much closer to him than a simple necessary conversation. He doesn’t really see himself as someone worthy of being close to anyone.

Kratos is an ancient being, being over fourthousand and also one of the four who ended the ancient war in his world. Even back then, he was very quiet and serious. So after four thousand years, it seems to have only intensified. He smiles a lot less and he tends to be more brooding. This change occurred a long time ago, when one of his companions, Martel, passed away. Around this time was when he and his friends cleaved the world in two and then ceased their internal clocks. Kratos feels particularly guilty about the fact that he did not make any attempt to stop Mithos when he was filled with the rage that was consuming him. Rather, for a very long time, he supported Mithos’ ideals. He became a very cold and empty person, emotionlessly moving forward with Mithos.

A big contributing factor to Kratos’ personality is Mithos. Before his clock stopped, he dedicated himself to Mithos. He had been the commander of the royal knights before everything went down... and even when he was called a heretic for supporting a half elf, he still remained by his side. Inevitably, when the kingdom fell, he felt no regret in going along with Mithos. He followed that group loyally, denying all claims of feeling sad for what he had lost. Even after Aselia became two worlds, he did not stop following Mithos. Despite the fact that Mithos now hated all humans, even screaming at Kratos that he was just like them, he remained loyal. He began to refer to Mithos as “Lord Yggdrasil” rather than Mithos, and very willingly accepted his role as ‘pawn.’ Despite the fact that Mithos had ceased being Kratos’ “hope”...he did not abandon him. During this time, he became cold. However, in the back of his mind, he wondered. “Was this how it had to be?”

It wasn’t until he met Anna that everything changed. She became what Kratos refered to as “his new hope,” and he fell in love. He essentially abandoned Mithos, going against all he had thought before. He realized that the way he had been “living” was not how it had to be. There was hope left in this world. And it was in this time of his life that he became a father. His son, Lloyd had a great impact on his life. He was determined to protect these two at all costs. It was at this point that he began to feel the massive regrets that a prevalent in the game. He had gained some of his humanity back, however...it was not meant to be. Anna had been an experiment. They were trying to create a Cruxis Crystal with her body...but she was failed experiment. The crystal parasited her body and deformed her into a monster. At this point, it was too late to save her. When she moved to attack the young Lloyd, he was forced to kill her. Despite saving him, Lloyd, the mortally wounded Anna andKratos’ companion (a dog thing), Noishe tumbled off of the cliff. By the time Kratos descended to look for them, they were nowhere to be found. Kratos fell into despair. He once again became an emotionless pawn of Mithos...except this time he had regrets as well.

Fifteen years later, Kratos reunited with his son. However, Kratos had no intent of ever telling the boy of their relation. At the time, he already knew that he would have to betray him. Since Lloyd was protecting Colette, and obviously would go against Mithos when he found out the truth, Kratos knew that he would end up betraying him. Because of this, Lloyd didn’t find out until long after the initial betrayal.

In the time where Kratos is being taken from, Lloyd still has no idea of his heritage, and Kratos is still in the act of trying to decide which path he should be taking. Lloyd’s, or Mithos’. Lloyd still believes that Kratos is an unbelievable traitor, and Kratos completely agrees. Around this time, Kratos is very brooding and guilty. On the outside, he’s the same as ever. However on the inside, he’s a tornado of whirling emotions and thoughts.

Kratos, all in all, is not an easy person to talk to. Certainly, he is not even an easy person to look in the eye. Because of his crimson eyes and hard glares, he is very intimidating. This for the better though. Kratos does not want anyone to become close to him, after all. Because everyone who comes close to him winds up going insane or dying...he can’t deal with that anymore. He simply will not allow himself to become close to anyone. However, if one were to force their affection and friendship on him, it’s almost certain that the seraph would not be able to help becoming attached.

Kratos is a big softy. He won’t ignore someone in need. This is probably how he became close to Anna in the first place. If someone is in trouble, he will move to save them. He is a knight at heart after all. He has even stated that if he were to live any other way, he wouldn’t know what to do. He also seems to lose his cool when it regards Lloyd. Despite not wanting to get Lloyd involved, he becomes very close to the boy. He even calls him his “new hope.” Kratos also seems to get emotional when it concerns people who have been parasited by an exsphere, this is because of what had happened to Anna.

Due to small amounts of evidence regarding the matter, Kratos evidently dislikes tomatoes and things with tomatoes in it. He is an adequate cook when it comes to most things, it is only things with tomatoes in it that he has a hard time managing. The same thing occurs with Lloyd.

Items: Kratos does not have much of a bag. However, he does carry a few things on his person. Things such as his sword (Flamberge), his shield, his clothing/armor... He also carries with him a locket depicting his deceased wife Anna and (at the time) infant son Lloyd.

Powers: List of Kratos' skills

He's one of the four seraphim, so he has abilities that no human ever could. First of all, he has blue, light based wings that he can use on command. With these, he can fly. Second, he has the ability to use magic. He can't use the most powerful spells like that of an all around mage, but he can use pretty good magic. He was human before he became immortal, so he doesn't have awesome skills like a half elf. He also has some healing abilities as well as a spell completely angel-based. However, despite all this, he prides himself mostly in his swordsmanship. He is a very skilled swordsman, having been the commander of the royal guard back in his day. He also taught Mithos the art of the sword, as well as futhering Lloyd's on knowledge of it. Kratos is very smart, always seeming to have a good idea of what is going on, as well as a good plan of action for every occasion. He's down to Earth and very able to keep his head in the game. He does not easily panic, making him very reliable.

[Kratos sits up from his unconscious state, blinking. He’s dazed for a moment, then his hand immediately flies to the hilt of his sword. After discerning that, yes, it is there and no, there is currently no need for it, he settles down. ‘This...does not seem familiar.’ he thinks, face puzzled as he stares up at the drizzling sky.

The seraph of course takes notice of the strange stone in his hand. He brings it up in front of it to give it a closer look. ‘It’s warm...’ Far warmer than his hand...how is that possible in this rain? Something about this seems a little strange.

Pocketing the stone, the ancient stands and begins to look around. It doesn’t take him long at all to figure out that this is not only a different place from where he remembers being before waking up, this seems to be a completely different world. After all the running around Kratos has been doing, and four thousand years of experience, it’s obvious to him.

The man moves under the overhang of a nearby building a looks about cautiously, still trying to assess his current options.]

It was during these times that Kratos released his emotions the most.

With a swing of the sword, all those feelings of rage sliced their way into the snarling monster’s body. Without missing a breath, the sword sliced through it one more time, releasing sorrow. As the creature fell, breathing no more, teeth still bared, Kratos swiped his sword one more time, ridding it of the blood. With this, he released his regret.

All of this left an almost blank expression on the ancient man’s face as he looked down at the creature he had just ended. Despite the fact that all his emotions were released upon it, Kratos felt almost baffled that they still resided within him. Perhaps it is true that he has been living far too long. He has especially been living far too long without emotion. Four thousand years ago his clock had stopped...and yet, it is only now that so many of these emotions are resurfacing. Kratos wondered how Mithos would feel if he were to confide this all to him.

Looking into the eyes of the still-snarling, yet no longer living creature, Kratos’ brows furrowed. He looked into its already-glassy eyes and saw fear frozen within them. He knew that the creature had only attacked out of fear. This was not a creature that normally hunted for humans. Perhaps it had a nest nearby that it was protecting. Had he subsequently killed an entire family in this fight for survival? The seraph knew that that didn’t matter.

“Blame your fate.” He whispered to the creature, sheathing his sword. Yes, this had been a fight for survival. For Kratos to feel any amount of guilt for slaying this creature that had been intending to kill him would...be simple weakness. And yet he could not help but sympathize with the unfortunate soul. For, during an action to protect his own young, he had also lost him as well. For...so many years, Kratos had been missing from that boy’s life. He could have died...it was simple luck that he had been found by Dirk.

Kratos knew that if this creature had any young, they would not have the same luck. The children of this creature would wait for its parent to come back and... it never would. It was possible that they were now old enough to set out on their own, but the man was sure that there was no possible way that that was the case.

Finally, the man turned away from the deceased creature. He continued on the path that he had been walking. He was on his way to a fork, wasn’t he...? Kratos could feel it coming up. A decision that would change his own life. It was inevitable wasn’t it...? It had been since the moment he met Anna, since the moment he knew she would die... He knew that everything would boil down to the up and coming fork in this road. Mithos...or Lloyd?

The ancient man paused in his tracks, feeling a pang of fear, then abruptly turned around. Rather than walking forward, he followed the backwards footprints of the creature that had attacked him. He was walking quickly, as if at the end of this path would be redemption.
